About the Artist

After graduating with a degree in industrial design, I moved to NY and became an audio engineer/sound effects artist in Manhattan. Designing soundscapes for television or theatre takes recorded audio from nature or fabricated with props and layers them onto tape to create an audio “image” of what is seen on film and "paints" it in the viewers mind. Seeing something live and recording my view of it led me to plein air painting. Preferring watercolor for its immediacy and freshness, I utilize the luminous quality of the pigment to include the viewer in the space and time I’m capturing on paper. Sometimes the scene is natural and unspoiled; sometimes it includes the artificial landscape created by human development. My intention is not to document the contrast between nature and man’s presence, but to integrate what is human-made into the natural environment as one of the “layers” mixed in to my version of the image.

Watercolor is my preferred medium, and I usually paint en plein air. Influenced by Sargent, I have followed in his steps to some of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy, France, Austria, Argentina, Spain and Scotland.

My work has been shown at the Art Students League in New York, and at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY, NoFo Art Tour 2018, NoFoArtWorks 2018 and 2019, Glen Hansen Studio in Southold, Islip Museum of Art, Art League of Long Island in Dix Hills.
